In memory of André Head- Genealogist & Historian
Donation protected
André Head had a passion for genealogy and history, specifically Black history.
He and his wife, Jessilyn, founded the Coltrane Group, a nonprofit(501c3)) organization created to preserve and revitalize the 13 remaining historically Black towns in Oklahoma. The Coltrane Group created the Historic Black Towns Tour program which takes people to visit the state’s historic Black towns. The goal is to increase awareness, create cultural tourism, promote economic development and celebrate the legacy of Oklahoma’s Black towns. In addition to honoring the rich history of Oklahoma, André served his community in other ways as well: he was a former firefighter and former federal marshal. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing André experienced his gift of giving generously of himself.
The family would like to keep André’s great work alive. In honor of André’s legacy, we welcome donations to The Coltrane Group as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers.
