Book Drive for Immigrant Kids

Each month, hundreds of unaccompanied minor immigrants arrive in the United States without knowledge of English, healthcare, school systems, and legal services.  We are running a book drive to donate quality Spanish books to these children, in support of their education and stability.  Every donation, however large or small, will be matched 50% by Usborne Books & More!

Jill will be bringing these books to Catholic Charities Refugee and Immigration Services of Boston, and they will be given to newly arriving immigrant children directly.  Many of these books will be going to unaccompanied minors through the Legal Orientation Program for Custodians (LOPC) at Catholic Charities. This program runs federally-sponsored orientation sessions in Spanish to educate the sponsors of the unaccompanied minors about the immigration court process, relevant laws and legal remedies, and provide resources to find an immigration attorney. The goal is to help the new immigrant children towards safety and stability. In June 2019, Catholic Charities provided a legal orientation to the sponsors of 143 unaccompanied children, and so far in 2019, over 1,100 individuals have attended a session of the Legal Orientation Program for Custodians in South Boston.  Your book donations will be given directly to these families to help support the education and transition of newly arriving immigrant children.
