Hope After Melissa - Rebuilding Lives in Jamaica

When a storm takes everything, we rebuild together.
Hurricane Melissa left some parts of Jamaica reeling - homes washed away, livelihoods paused, families cut off from essentials.
Some of the very people hardest hit are the ones who help make Jamaica’s beauty possible: the chefs, housekeepers, tour drivers, bartenders, and small vendors who keep our island humming.
Together, we’re rallying to care for them beginning with hospitality families who’ve lost nearly everything. They need clothing, toiletries, food, solar lights, and tools to rebuild their homes and lives.
They are the beginning, not the end, of this effort to help restore dignity in communities across the west coast of the island.
I’m Roxanne Bellamy, an event planner and hospitality consultant born in Jamaica and based between Miami and Washington, DC - now working alongside local partners and volunteers to get relief directly where it’s needed most.
PHASE ONE: Families of the Hospitality Industry
We’re intentionally starting with families whose lives and livelihoods have been deeply impacted. They need the basics: clothing, shoes, toiletries, undergarments, dry goods, solar lights, and tools to begin cleanup.
Your donations will help purchase and deliver:
- Clothing and shoes for adults and children
- Toiletries and sanitary products
- Dry food, canned goods, and bottled water
- Solar-powered chargers and lanterns
- Power tools, generators, and cleaning supplies
- And other relief necessities
Where possible, items will be purchased locally to support Jamaica’s small businesses and local economy, with additional supplies shipped from abroad.
PHASE TWO: Community Care Bags
Once those families are stable, we’ll expand relief by distributing 50–100 care bags in the parishes of St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, and Hanover - some of the hardest hit areas. Local volunteers from unaffected, or less-affected parishes will help distribute supplies.
Each bag will include at least a 3-day supply of:
- Hygiene and sanitary products
- Dry and canned goods, powdered milk, and water
- Solar chargers to help families reconnect
- Other necessities
We’ll also host community meals for those most vulnerable during this recovery period.
HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED
Funds raised will directly support:
- Food and clean water for rural families
- Emergency essentials - bedding, sanitary items, dry food, canned goods, baby supplies, etc.
- Every dollar turns into something tangible
All funds will be held in a dedicated relief account managed by myself and a small oversight team. Full expense reports and visual updates will be shared publicly as distributions occur.
