Okay, having really let this get down to the short strokes for various reasons, let’s give this a try at least. After a thorough and complete baptism of fire in the Oklahoma “justice” system for a marijuana charge, Aaron is finally being released. Although he’s had amazing support from friends and his family there reality is he’s facing coming out to “the World” with virtually nothing. Not a dime. No phone or other way to communicate. Few clothes. No transportation.

Adding insult to injury, last October, the state decided to suspend Aaron’s driver’s license for failure to pay child support. They say there is a requirement for payment of $1,100 plus the reinstatement charges to the Department of Motor Vehicles. They did this despite his making all the payments up to the week before being taken into custody and he was in custody for over a year before they made this decision. Their response to his inquiry was basically, “Woops!” But, regardless, they want the fees to give him his license back.

He wants and needs to leave Oklahoma and come here, to California where he already has housing and a place in a wildland firefighter training class and crew, to provide employment at least through the fire season this year. His goal is to get into the local juco and make some grades to get back to a four-year program here.

I’m suffering from all the “P’s” i.e., procrastination, paralysis, pride….but the fact is I don’t have any other options or resources to help him myself. Any gifts will go specifically to the hard costs associated with getting him here with no frills, no celebration, every possible practical and frugal choice available.
