After leaving an abusive relationship, my daughter and I were finally able to move somewhere safe thanks to a beautiful soul. We are now starting completely over, but I’m incredibly grateful to have people supporting us in so many ways while I search for employment and resources.

My name is Claudia. I’m 25 years old and a single mom to my wonderful 2 year old. I created this fundraiser to ask for support as we rebuild our lives after leaving a financially, emotionally, and physically abusive relationship. I was unsure on how to speak out about my situation, feeling shame and alone but I knew I needed to leave.

When I became pregnant, my ex and I agreed that I’d stay home, then raise our daughter. Over time, the relationship became controlling and unhealthy. I stayed despite the problems because I love my daughter deeply and wanted to be there for her every day, but eventually I realized neither of us deserved to live in that environment. At first it was comfort, it turned to pure survival as his behavior escalated but eventually the realization that I nor my daughter were truly save, made me look for an escape plan.

Leaving was one of the hardest and scariest decision I’ve ever made. I had no savings, no car, and very limited support. Since leaving, I’ve been actively searching for work and trying to save what I can but rebuilding from zero has been overwhelming. I haven’t been able to find employment but I am a full time student.

The funds raised will help us with:

• transportation with a reliable car

• housing and future apartment deposits

• childcare and basic necessities

• rebuilding stability while I search for employment

Right now, having this safe place to stay and room to breathe has already changed so much for us. For the first time in a long time, I can finally imagine a peaceful future for myself and my daughter, often wondering that maybe I should have reached out for help sooner and left.

I believe abuse is abuse — whether emotional, financial, mental, or physical. I don’t want my daughter growing up believing that being treated poorly is something people should accept because they depend on someone.

I am determined to create a better life for us. I know my hard work will pay off; I just need help getting through this difficult transition.
