Help local police officer’s family rebuild after fire
Donation protected
On Monday, February 24, my brother Lewis and his fiancée Sydney lost literally everything in a fire that happened in his apartment complex. The fire started two floors above him.
My brother is an MP in the RI National Guard, and he is also a Police Officer in Tiverton, RI. He doesn’t ask for help whatsoever, so I know he is going to be upset that I’m even doing this. He is starting from scratch. He did not have renter's insurance at the time.
The most important thing is that he, Syd, and the dogs are SAFE. The Red Cross wanted to put them all in a shelter (gymnasium) for help, and the town told them they were on their own. But that unfortunately does not work for Lewis with his career, and he has two dogs. He is driven to protect and make sure Sydney is taken care of; this completely knocked him off his feet.
At the moment, they are staying with me, but they need to start over in EVERY sense of the word. They are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone reaching out and offering so much assistance with furniture and leads on apartments. With that being said, the money that is raised will go directly to a security deposit for a new apartment, money to pay for furniture, dog food, a new bed (they lost it due to the water damage from the floor above when they had to break open the ceiling), and food to fill a new apartment (when they find one).
There is so much tragedy happening, but we are so grateful to all who have reached out and offered support and help during these past two days. Our hearts are with the families who also lost their homes in the Bainbridge fire.
If you feel inclined to donate, we thank you. We understand the times everyone is going through today, so even just sharing this story will mean the most to him, Syd, and the pups… and us as his big sisters.
