I am thrilled to share the exciting news that my daughter and her wife are expecting their first child in January! As they prepare to welcome this precious addition to their family, they are working to ensure that their child has the secure and protected future every child deserves.

Despite the joy surrounding their growing family, they are facing a legal challenge unique to the LGBTQ+ community. Current laws do not automatically recognize both parents' rights in same-sex families, even though they will be raising this baby together from day one. In order to secure full parental rights, my daughter’s wife must legally adopt her own child.

The adoption process can be costly and stressful, especially at a time when they are focused on preparing their home and hearts for a new baby. While they are determined to do whatever it takes, the legal fees associated with this process are an unexpected and significant financial burden.
