My mom, Susan, has always been there for me and my sister. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised us as a single parent, working as an orthodontic assistant until she got sick about 17 years ago. Since then, her health has made it impossible for her to return to the work that she loved and misses every day, and she’s had to rely on disability and a small inheritance trust just to live month to month. Even with her own struggles—bad hips, a bad back, and unsteady hands—she’s always tried to help out, especially with my sister’s kids. She loves her grandkids and is always willing to watch them or help when she can. She still has a passion for dental care and can answer any question about teeth, even though she misses her job a lot.

A few weeks ago, my mom hit a deer and her car was totaled. She lives alone, and both my sister and I are more than 20 minutes away. Without a car, she’s having a hard time getting groceries, making it to her medical appointments, and taking care of her animals, who also have medical needs. She’s getting a little money from insurance and her church, but it’s not enough to get a reliable used vehicle. Her monthly budget is tight so she can’t afford a monthly payment.

I’m doing what I can to help, but I can’t cover the entire cost on my own. I’m hoping to raise enough so my mom can get a safe, dependable vehicle as soon as possible.
