Hi, my name is Kayla, and I’m a single mom to three amazing kids — two boys and my only daughter. This past year has been the hardest of my life, but I’m determined to rebuild and give my kids the safe, stable home they deserve.
I’ve been staying with family for nearly three years, trying to get back on my feet. During that time, I’ve worked, taken side gigs, and done everything I can to save enough money to move out, but the cost of living is so high, and saving while raising three growing kids is a challenge. Every time I make progress, unexpected expenses or setbacks force me to dip into savings. It’s been a slow and frustrating process, but I never gave up.
After three years on the Section 8 waiting list, I was finally approved for a housing voucher. This is my time, my chance to get back on my own and give my kids a stable home. I recently applied for an apartment, but because of my credit, the security deposit is set at the full amount of $1,500, and I’ll also need to cover utility deposits before I can move in.
This journey hasn’t been easy. I deal with diagnosed anxiety and depression, which makes it even harder to stay hopeful during struggles like this. It took so much for me to make this GoFundMe and ask for help because I feel embarrassed about my situation. But I know I have to try for my kids — they’re my reason to keep going, no matter how hard it gets.

Thanks to you, I was able to afford the $35 application fee for the apartment, and that alone was a big step for me. You’ve made me feel less alone, and I’m deeply grateful.
Why I’m Asking for Help
I’m actively applying for work-from-home jobs and gig opportunities to help make ends meet, but the upfront costs of moving are more than I can manage alone right now. Once I receive confirmation that I’m approved for the apartment, I’ll update my GoFundMe with accurate deposit amounts, utility costs, and proof. I’m committed to keeping everyone updated every step of the way.
