Help us support Kristina in becoming a Master’s Grad in Education, a full-fledged teacher/educator, and a Los Angeles Resident!!!!
As you know, our sister, Kristina “Chiena” Liwanag is moving to VERY SOON on August 18th, 2019 to start a new chapter of her life at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)!!! GO BRUINS! She’ll be workin’ towards her Master’s in Education, and a Teaching Credential in English Language Arts through UCLA’s Teacher Education Program (TEP).
This day crept on our family so fast We’re still trying to figure out how we feel that Chiena, who we’ve spent our whole lives with, is REALLY leaving the Bay and establishing her own journey with her loving and encouraging partner who is based in LA.
That being said, Chiena’s decision to continue pursuing education came from labor of love... love for the betterment of the youth and the betterment of our POC communities. From babysitting her young nieces, teaching in after school programs in Sunset and Excelcior districts in San Francisco, teaching Ethnic Studies through Pin@y Educational Partnerships, to coaching soccer in SF, Daly City, and Oakland, this woman has exemplified what it truly means to creatively and selflessly serve Bay Area families.
This decision will also come with long and arduous struggle. We, as Chiena’s family and friends, have the opportunity to support another Pilipinx woman through higher education! This is such a huge milestone not only for our family, but for our community!
With a goal of raising $3000 through this gofundme page, we hope to support Chiena’s transition to LA and to alleviate any worries there may be around
-school materials
-books
-transportation in LA’s mainey driving life
-and general needs that definitely come with transitioning as a Grad student in a new city.
This woman supported HERSELF throughout all of her undergrad!! Let’s show her all our love and that she’s not alone in this new journey!
