Help upgrade Sweet Water Well

Donation protected
Ceel Macaan (which means "Sweet Well") is a well located in a desert outside the Somali town of Cadale. It gets its name because it produces drinkable water whereas wells throughout the region often produce salt water.

The people of Cadale and the many nomadic communities that pass through the area depend heavily on Sweet Water Well. Unfortunately for them, the Well is not up to modern standards and has not been rehabilitated in decades. They still use the rope and bucket method to draw water. A handy, but unhygienic method.

Hundreds of people using the same rope and dirty bucket is the quickest way to spread germs. Luckily there is an easy and inexpensive solution to their dilemma - a solar water pump! With this fundraiser we hope to achieve the following objectives:

1) Harness the power of the dazzling desert sun by means of solar panels to power the water pump

2) Build a long trough for stranded animals to drink from

3) Train youth from the community to troubleshoot the pump in the event of malfunction

Here are short clips showing the impact of well improvement in rural parts of Somalia and how much it helps improve sanitation, increase efficiency and supply more people with better quality water:

We hope to give the people of Cadale clean accessible water, and by doing so, we hope to reduce the spread of Cholera, COVID19 and other water-born diseases from spreading throughout the region.

The Pastoral communities of Cadale are kind and hardworking people who deserve access to safe and clean drinking water. Help us give them that by donating to this worthy cause.

May God reward you for your efforts, InshaAllah.
