Help us to save our dreams from the war on gaza

• Hi my name is basem alkafarna i work as a nurse in ministry of health in Palestine and i will be so happy if you have a moment to know my story and help me to save what left of our dreams, me and my lovely wife Balsam we got engaged prior the war on gaza for 2 month and we planned to get married after 6 month but under the horrific circumstances of gaza war we got married during the war without doing any wedding preparations and literally nothings we have planned for in the fear of dying alone in distance of my wife so we agreed to do nothing in favor to stay together and we agreed to live together or die together, so we had a lot of dreams and hopes and so many plans for our newhouse like every love story ends with marriage but sadly the war has take everything from us even the house that we suppose to live in is gone and bombed, all we have now only the photos and memories of our happy places , at the end i wish you can help us to start our life and help to stand on our feet as newly married couple who lost everything and even forbidden from holding a marriage ceremony and every time i look to my wife eyes i see her tears because she was forbidden from the one lifetimes happiness and wearing the wedding dress as every girl dream...

• This view was from our room in Shifa Hospital like every night it supposed to be a fireworks on the beach but in Palestine in Gaza it's a different story .

• This photo was taken in the European Gaza Hospital after we evacuated shifa hospital walking on feet for about 6 hours we covered a distance of 30 kilo meter and we got there super exhausted , and now still working and spending all my break time with my wife and it rarely comes because of the huge numbers of injuries the came to the OR.

• this photo was taken in Rafah beach after we forcibly displaced from gaza town into the far south of gaza .

• after a few days of rest i decided to get back to my work as OR Nurse and help the patients in The European Gaza hospital in khanyounis town.

• i used to work for 24 hours and then get rest for the next 24 hours and get back to my wife in Rafah town , it was a really hard time of fear and stress and still.

• after alot of hard days i met my belvoed friend from the ICRC Dr. Koohe from Japan who was a plastic surgeon i learned alot of him God bless him

• In the 2024 Gaza war, I face great suffering as one of the nurses working under harsh and difficult conditions. Every day, we see a massive influx of patients who need urgent care, and we work tirelessly to provide assistance amid scarce resources and ongoing threats to our safety. The pressures don’t stop at physical work; they also extend to the psychological aspect, as we witness the impact of violence on families and communities, leaving a deep mark on our souls.

Despite the fatigue and exhaustion, we all demonstrate an incredible capacity for endurance and empathy, often sacrificing our mental and physical health for the sake of others. We work as a united team, supporting one another in facing daily challenges. Our unwavering commitment to providing care reflects the vital role that healthcare workers play even in the bleakest circumstances.

This experience underscores the importance of international support for us, as we need resources and psychological assistance to continue fulfilling our duties. Ultimately, humanity and hope remain the forces that drive us to persist, no matter the conditions.
