A "Fanciful" Baby Watchman Character with a "Real" Purpose and Mission
As a semi-retired, artist, I am reaching out through GOFUNDME - to families, friends and the community to help me bring what I believe is my ultimate artistic creation to life. According to my vision, I believe the idea will benefit all babies and small children in a healthy, positive way for new generations to come! All Contributions, large or small, will help us make it one of today' BIGGEST Social Media events for the healthy, positive benefit of all babies and small children - for new generations to come!
The OBW concept and character is something new, for younger families. The artist believes it will provide a bright sunny break - a ray of sunshine through this past year’s sad, somber dark clouds. It will give the younger families and their new-born babies and small children something bright, positive and happy as they start off on their life journey.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: Read and share, “The Official Baby Watcher” story, you can see the accompanying colorful illustration and read story on-line Story, in either English or Spanish, at the following link STORY . Please share story with other families and their small children. Story is about a 13-minute read. Story is also there in text only so it can be placed into a translator program and shared with families in other languages.

“Have you ever had a need to create something because you can't find anything like it anywhere in stores? This is how "The Li'l Baby Watcher" came to being. "I created The OBW, character a few years ago for a friend's new- born baby because I wanted to give the baby something significant with a purpose. I thought - the greatest thing I could give a child would be their very own personal guardian that would watch over them forever" says artist, Ray Gatica.
Now, through The Official Baby Watcher dolls families everywhere can share this same, warm caring thought with babies and small children. The OBW dolls are based on the main character in the story. They are playable, soft plush Dolls that double as decorative Wall-Hangings for the babies’ rooms. The idea is that while the baby is not playing with it gets hung on the wall where it performs its fanciful duty of being a little watchman for the baby’s room. AND, because the dolls are non-gender specific, and are available in assorted face and hair color combinations that make them great meaningful, multi-cultural caring “Gifts from the Heart”, for baby boys and girls af all nationalities.
STORY SUMMARY: The concept is based on a peculiar misfit character, named, Wob (rhymes with Bob). He is the main character in the story for children. Through the story children will learn how Wob’s “Li’l Voice from Within” becomes his best friend, and helps him accept himself and overcome his self-doubt and fears - to magically save the baby from pending harm. The family now accepts WOB as part of the family and gives him the title, “The Official Baby Watcher”. We encourage families to read and see the illustrated story in either, Spanish or English, at the website www.TheOBW.net. A text-only-version is also available so that it can be put in a translator program and shared in other languages.
How does his ‘Fanciful’ ‘Mission become ‘REAL’ you ask? The story is designed to inspire the parents, grandparents and the family to unite, to become extensions of the character. We especially believe that it will inspire small children with young, smaller siblings to have fun and become “Baby Watcher Helpers”, to help the OBW character in watching over their younger siblings’, safety and well-being”. Ultimately, this is how we see the character’s “FANCIFUL” Purpose and Mission become a wholesome, warm “REALITY’, as envisioned by the artist.
ABOUT THE ARTIS’S INSPIRATION and MOTIVATION: I conceived the original idea over 35 years ago as a baby gift for a friend’s new-born baby. But, as I was busy making a living as a commercial artist, creating for private and commercial clients those years - it stayed in the back of my mind. And, this past year with the pandemic slowdown and the isolation, I have had a lot of time to think about the concept and have put the finishing touches on the idea and think it is ready to share it with families. Consequently, I am giving it one final push for the benefit of all families… Plus, I believe, the character and concept will be a NEW HAPPY thing for families and children to get behind to have fun, especially after the past, sad - sad year! I feel the time is NOW to share it with the public!
MOTIVATION: A Few Words from the Artist’s on the motivation Behind The Overall Idea: Have you ever had a need to create something because you can't find anything like it anywhere in stores? This is why "The Li'l Baby Watcher", came to being. I conceived the idea over 30 years ago for a friend's new-born baby because I wanted to give the new baby a meaningful unique “Gift from the Heart”, something significant and with a purpose. I thought - the greatest thing I could give a child would be their very own personal guardian that would watch over them forever", says artist. The original idea baby gift presented to my friend’s child was an 18” X 24" airbrushed rendering/illustration of what I imagined a baby watcher would look like.
THE PRODUCTS: The 2 main items, for now, are:
· The OBW Storybook, The overall idea is based on “The Official Baby Watcher” the main character in the story for children: Read & See the colorfully illustrated story, on-line in English, and in Spanish and share it with the children!
· The OBW Dolls We plan to make the dolls available as warm caring ‘Gifts from the Heart’ parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other family and friends to share with small children. They are based on the main character in the story. They are playable, soft plush dolls that double as decorative Wall-Hangings for the babies’ rooms. IDEA HIGHL LIGHTS: History In The Making:
A word on ‘SIBLING RIVALRY’: Not to get too serious, but the artist believes the concept and character may also help to minimize “Sibling Rivalry”, by giving older siblings a new, fun, caring reason to embrace and care for their younger siblings and new-born family additions.
· We believe today’s discerning families – who expect more from a children’s character than just cutesy and plushy - will see the concept’s true value, especially for children, and will warmly embrace the character.
· The character has a lot of wholesome goodness to offer families.
· There has never been another character like this. The OBW is a positive, non-violent, non-mushy character.
· The loving, caring li’l character will make a healthy, positive Role Model for small children. Overall, he will bring families together to form a “Society of Official Baby Watcher Helpers” - for the benefit of all new-born babies and small children of the world!
· As long as there are babies being born - The OBW will be there for generations to come.
THE USE of FUNDS: Funds will be used to hire assistants to help Gatica with Social Media Marketing, story reading and exhibitions. The funds will also be used to produce the two Initial primary/products items, the Storybooks and DOLL/Wall-hangings based on the concept, story and character. The dolls will be made available as caring baby gifts from grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends of small children.
There will be Story Readings & Art Exhibitions at libraries to share the story and dolls with families etc. Other exhibiting venues will be schools, churches, libraries, children museums. Art exhibits will consist of photos of 30 years of concept development since 1989.
