My name is Marissa Aguilar Solis, and I’m 25 years old, living in Bakersfield, California with my mom and two younger siblings.
This year, my life changed in ways I never could have imagined. In mid-August, I began experiencing severe abdominal pain that made even lying down unbearable. After visiting urgent care and undergoing an ultrasound, I was told I had a 14 cm tumor on my right ovary that would need to be removed right away. Just three weeks later, on August 27, 2025, I underwent major surgery to remove my right ovary.
Recovery was tough, as it was the most pain I had ever experienced. During my recovery, my oncologist told me I had stage II ovarian cancer, a serous tumor involving both ovaries. The hardest part was him informing me that I'm at risk of losing my left ovary resulting in becoming infertile. Hearing that news shattered me. At 25, the possibility of losing my ability to conceive naturally was devastating. I cried for weeks hearing this news all while still recovering from my surgery.
While it has been physically, emotionally, and mentally draining, I'm doing everything I can to preserve my fertility. On October 27, 2025, I began fertility treatment and egg freezing at HRC Fertility in Pasadena, CA. These treatments are incredibly expensive and emotionally draining, but I believe they are an investment in my future and my dream of becoming a mother someday.
I currently work three jobs to support my family and myself, but between medical bills, medications, and time off work for fertility treatment, it’s been overwhelming. For my first treatment cycle, I borrowed from family, but to continue, I would need to take out a personal loan.
This is why I’m asking for your help.
Your contribution — no matter the size — will directly go toward covering fertility treatment costs, repaying family loans, and relieving the financial stress that comes with this journey.
I’m deeply grateful for any support you can offer. Thank you for reading my story, for sharing it, and for helping me hold onto hope — for healing, for the future, and for the chance to become a mom one day.
With love and gratitude,
Marissa Aguilar Solis
