Help Elderly Jefferson County Couple Repair Roof

Donation protected
Back in December a local elderly couple living in the Northern Jefferson county area was visited by the Jefferson County Sheriff's office for a welfare check die to the condition of their home.  This call was posted onto the "Jefferson County Kansas Police Scanner and News" facebook page and quickly drew alot of attention from locals commenting and expressing interest in helping them out.

Sugie Wilson, a Jefferson County resident, knew these folks and relayed info to the comments section about their situation and what they needed.  They are very sweet people who are too proud to ask for help.  Due to health problems and unfortunate circumstances they are not able to make necessary repairs to their home.   A lot of people seemed interested in helping in various fashions so myself and Sugie put together a group chat with individuals that expressed interest in helping.

I apologise for the lack of transparency but out of respect for the privacy of the individuals we are helping, myself and Sugie decided it was best not to put the individuals names or where they lived in this go fund me post.  Whatever we are able to raise for funds and exactly what it's spent on will be posted back to this fundraiser page with pictures of receipts, progress on the house, and anything extra after the repairs are made.  A general list of things this money is going towards is listed below.

For the sake of a brief backstory I'll try to explain how these folks ended up in this situation.

The house these folks originally lived in burned down.  The house they purchased after the fire is the house they currently reside in.  The houses previous owners added onto and remodeled part of the house before selling. Not only did they not finish it, but the work they did  was not properly done.

Currently the house is cold, drafty and is letting alot of water into the back of the house.

These funds raised will go towards replacing the roof, repairing the area below the leaking roof, upgrading the bathroom to a handicap accessible walk-in style shower, repairing the front door and anything else that may pop up as we begin working on the house.

If any funds remain after making the repairs to the house, that money will go towards paying utilities, buying groceries or any other needs they might have.

A group of locals have already taken action and have started to work on the house.  We organized a cleanup day and cleaned up all of the construction debris left over from previous owners. We have braced/supported the existing rafters so we can begin work on the roof.  We've added tarps to mitigate cold drafts and rain.  Other individuals have been so kind as to donate blankets, warm meals, small space heaters, and a few other household necessities.  We are about to start tearing off the old roof to assess any damage to the rafters and begin reroofing the entire back side of the house.  Individuals have came forward and offered up miscellaneous building materials for us to use on the house however there are still a lot of things we inevitably will need to purchase new.  Such items include

-4x8 roof sheeting
-roof underlayment
-shingles
-flashing
-nails/screws and misc. Hardware
-2x4, 2x6 and 2x8 lumber
-insulation
-handicap accessable shower
-drywall
-front door frame, threshold, and door

We would gladly accept donations of building materials or people offering to help.

All of the repairs will be done by volunteering individuals.  No company or individual will be financially compensated for doing any work.

Before this post on the Facebook page was brought to my attention, I didn't know these people.  Neither did any of the other people who have volunteered and donated.  It's truly amazing what people can accomplish when they come together for a good cause.  These folks are already very thankful for the help they have received from complete strangers.

Any donations to this fundraiser are greatly appreciated and if you're not able to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser and spreading the word greatly helps.  These are hard times to be asking for help but if every one chips in even the smallest amount it's still a huge help.
