WHO NEEDS HELP?
I’m Jamie Choi, a long-time Tongva/Chumash land resident. I’m writing on behalf of a dear friend of mine, Bunnie (they/them), the beneficiary of this long-term fundraiser.
Bunnie is a dear friend who consistently shows up for others going through hard times, sometimes to their own detriment—whether that is organizing support for friends, creating virtual spaces for others to foster community connection, donating to mutual aid, or even just lending a listening ear, they have always been a rock in their communities and circles of friends, including myself. Now, I feel it is time to give back to them no matter how long it takes.
THEIR STORY
- Long-term unemployment (2023-present), chronic illnesses, and medical emergencies (2021-2024) that have left Bunnie drained financially and physically burnt out.
- A personal history fraught with abuse, stalking, harassment, and hate crimes. A fractured life limiting reach, opportunities, and support.
- Bunnie cares for two asthmatic, FHV+ adult cats who have been in need of food, immune system supplements, medication (acute symptom management), and special litter (asthma). Shelters provide inconsistent support.
- A family surviving hardship. Bunnie’s family has cut back on essentials like food in 2025.
- Disrupted careers. Bunnie is an artist whose crafts have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Customer service jobs have been impossible to book due to their history of being an active committee of labor union drives, the changing landscape in the hiring world, and the challenging economy.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Bunnie desperately needs consistent, ongoing help covering:
- Bare Minimum Survival: rent assistance for family ($2975/mo, may be raised soon) + groceries, gas, utilities ($1000+/mo for 4 adults after reducing groceries) + specialized C-PTSD therapy ($40/session, wk).
- Other Necessities: pet health insurance ($110/mo), critical dental insurance to avoid more unaffordable out-of-pocket specialist bills for ongoing problems ($60/mo), and if ever possible, medication and treatments for their ongoing health issues.
While the priority is to make sure the humans can get their needs first to ensure they can continue to do what needs to be done for themselves, their ongoing cat needs outside of the bare minimum of cat food ($220+/mo) and cat litter ($160+/mo) are cat medications ($620+/yr), cat supplements for immune system support ($20-31+/mo depending on product available), and any vet bills that pop up through the year.
As of this updated description in Feb. 2026, Bunnie has not been able to raise enough or a consistent monthly amount on this campaign (transparency note: per updates below the campaign description, they have received occasional offline assistance at a shelter, mutual aid events, and from their local communities).
IMPACT / OTHER WAYS TO HELP
You can see the positive impact through Bunnie’s regular updates, but I can for sure say everyone’s contributions in 2025 allowed them to breathe a little easier and put out fires. They are immensely grateful and only continue to hope for a better life because of your kindness.
