Give More HUGS (GMH)  is a 501 (c) 3 global non-profit focused on uniting giving souls to provide students in need with the tools to inspire a love for learning, reading, and creativity. GMH members and volunteers believe that everyone should be afforded the opportunity to actively participate in all aspects of a quality education.


After living in Dominica for over two years, Chris McGilvery started a non-profit organization to advocate the need for quality education for all. He volunteered his time to help students in many different parts of the island. This inspired him and many others to start a non-profit that would provide educational resources, mentorships, extracurricular activity scholarships, and books with inspirational messages.

We are taking our experiences and helpful hands back to the Caribbean, to a small island in the West Indies - DOMINICA, where the vision and work of Give More HUGS started in 2013.  Due to Tropical Storm Erika, our helping hands and your support are greatly needed. 

The GMH team will complete each of the following:

1. FIVE individual school visits to speak to children about their education, host an activity, and deliver donations.
2. Build ONE community garden center to a school in need. (Most schools in Dominica do not have structured food programs and are in charge of ensuring each child eats while at school. A garden will provide basic vegetables, herbs, and add a new science learning activity to their curriculum.)
3. Make connections with school teachers, community partners (i.e. Rotary Club International, Ross Spouses Organization), and local businesses to support the #GiveMoreHUGSmovement. 
4. Host a fundraising event on island to ensure a strong relationship with businesses, Ross University School of Medicine, and individuals.
5. Create a new video for our program
6. Share our experience with our supporters.  


The estimated cost for the service trip will be $12,000 USD. These funds will be distributed accordingly to cover travel expenses, lodging, transportation, shipping of educational materials, costs for school supplies, and any extra supplies needed to ensure the community garden is structured properly and safely.

As we continue to expand our charitable services, we need your help! We hope that education holds a special place in your heart. We also hope you will be willing to help support the 2015 HUGS for Dominica Service Trip. We want these five schools to start the school year off with an abundance of books, school supplies, art supplies, workshops, and more. 


Chris (Texas)I believe that every child deserves a quality education to achieve both personal and academic success. There are many students in the U.S. and Caribbean who need support, motivation, and resources to be active in all parts of a quality education. We hope to change lives by inspiring and empowering students through their educational journey. The heart and soul of our organization began in Dominica and our team would like to continue to support students with basic school supplies, books, art supplies, mentorships, and inspiration.  Any contributions will be greatly appreciated by both Give More HUGS and students in Dominica.

As a Board Member of Give More HUGS for nearly three years, I have been able to see this organization grow in depth and breadth with the number of students it has been able to inspire. I hope to take my international and educational-based experience to Dominica and build strong, lasting, and impactful relationships.

Being given the opportunity to use my skills as a teacher to give back to an island that gave my life so much meaning after living there is a true honor.
