Walk for Ukraine

Teams at Health Data Research UK are walking 1500 miles (the distance from London to Kyiv) to raise money for three families who have fled Ukraine to Poland.

 

Piotr and Sylwia from Wroclaw, Poland were among the first volunteers to help Ukrainian refugees. They have three children themselves and did not hesitate to step in to help once the war in Ukraine broke out. They are helping three families that they have collected from Wroclaw train station in Poland.

 

First family:

Tatiana and Natasza are sisters from Kryvyi Rih, where President Zelensky is from. Between them they have three children, of which the youngest is two years old.

Piotr and Sylwia have managed to find them a flat and “carers” in Wroclaw and are now trying to find jobs for them.

 

Second family:

Tania, Angelina and Natasza are grandmother, mother and daughter from Khariv. Their house has been flattened by the bombing. Piotr and Sylwia have managed to find them a house and care in Karpacz, two hours away from Wroclaw.

 

Third family:

This family needs the most help from Piotr and Sylwia.

Tatiana (44) came to Poland with two daughters Natasza (26) and Julia (21) and Natasza’s son – 5 year-old Vlad. Vlad has come with only one spare set of clothes and nothing else.

The biggest challenge for them now is to secure long-term accommodation. Luckily due to generosity of another family they have secured accommodation for the first month.

Piotr and Sylwia would like to help them to rent a flat (approximately £400 a month) and secure a place in a pre-school/nursery for Vlad (around £200 a month). This is not only vital for his mental health and development, but also will allow his mum to work. At the moment, the family is not working, however, they are trying to find jobs to sustain them long-term.

 

All the families have come without their husbands/partners, who stayed in Ukraine to defend their country. They will need support while in Poland and when they return to Ukraine.
