Hardworking parents of 4 wonderful kids purchased a home with grandma. Unfortunately, my mom is trying to take our home away, and has been verbally and physically abusive towards her grandkids, my wife, and me.
My wife is amazing, she is a mom, wife, full-time student, and worked full-time from 2015-2018 to get her teaching credential. I was the stay at home dad, I was injured on the job in 2008 and was not able to work. We got married in July 1998. We have four great kids, their ages are 17, 15, 10, 8. We wanted to give our kids a better life, and where we lived was not the greatest area. We started looking in mid 2018 for our forever home to spend the rest of our lives in.
Our lives were turned upside down, when my mom told my wife and I that her and my dad were getting a divorce just a couple weeks after we told them we were looking to buy a home. My mom started looking at homes with us. She put a $210,000 down payment, and she would give us $1,000 dollars for monthly expenses. My wife and I agreed to pay the mortgage. When we moved, my mom would not let us take anything from our old home. She wanted all new furniture, and everyday items to be brand new. Everything she did was a gift to my family and I.
On January 22nd 2019 we moved into the new home. Two days after moving into our new home, my wife had to call the police. Grandma came up the stairs yelling at my daughters telling them to be quiet. She was going towards my youngest daughter and my wife stepped in between them. Grandma began punching and scratching my wife as she was on the phone with 911. For the safety of our kids we left our home for the night. This was not the first time my mom has hit my wife, the first time was in 1998 right before we were married.
Both my daughters are in fear of their grandma, they are scared to go down stairs by themselves when grandma is home. My 17 year old son has depression because the things he sees his grandma do towards his family. My 15 year old son started cutting himself over a year ago. He thought if he did this it would take the pain away. He also sees how his grandma treats his family. He stopped last summer because she went away for a few months. When she came back, life got worse because she started harassing my wife when I wasn't around. She would tell her grand kids that they are not her blood and she doesn't love them, and that they are disgusting, and my 15 year old started cutting himself again. He just sent my wife and I a text on May 26th 2020 telling us his feelings. He started talking to a psychologist about this. My son told his grandma that she is causing him pain and that he is cutting himself and she told him that it was not her fault. My wife had to call the police the very next day because my mom was trying to push her way in our bedroom where my wife and daughters were. The police officer suggested getting a domestic violence restraining order. The officer also told my mom that my wife will be filing one. The next day a restraining order was filed with San Joaquin County and we have a court date at the end of June 2020. On June 4th she told us that she was moving out and her lawyer will be sending us paperwork.
My wife and I just received a letter from her attorney on June 8th 2020 letting us know that she wants her $210,000 for the down payment of the house and all the furniture she gifted to us for the house. Your generous donation will go towards buying her out of our home and the gifts she has purchased for us.
We don't have this kind of money, each month we put all of our paychecks to the home and our attorney fees because she has not been upholding her rights and duties to the home.
My family and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading our story. The letter from her attorney states that we have a short time (10 days) to get the money together to buy her out or she will file a partition against us to force a sale of our home. Please help us keep stability in our kid’s lives as they continue to recover from this traumatic experience.
