Jake Tompkins is from Russellville, Alabama. He and his wife, Kayla Tompkins, have been married almost five years, and share a precious, spunky, soon to be three-year-old daughter together, Andi-Blayke.
Jake has worked in Law Enforcement for fourteen years and is currently employed at Russellville Police Department as Lieutenant of Investigations. Kayla recently sold her business to pursue a career in real estate and has placed that endeavor on hold at this time in light of Jake’s recent diagnosis.
Jake has been experiencing swelling in the jaw area on and off for around two years. On Tuesday, May 12, 2020, Jake received pathology results diagnosing him with melanoma. To be clear, this is not melanoma which most think of as a mole or a mark that can be removed. The melanoma is internal and the source is unknown at this time. Jake and Kayla will be flying to Houston, Texas to MD Anderson Cancer Center on May 26, 2020. Upon arrival, Jake will have a Covid-19 test and will be quarantined for a 48-hour period. On May 28, Jake will see an Oncologist at which time he will undergo a series of testing to determine the severity and the stage. Treatment will then be determined.
This is a precious family, much loved by their family, friends and community. They are dealing with a shocking, unexpected life event. Jake and Kayla are hard-working individuals and have asked only for your prayers during this time.
