Gestational Surrogacy for Baby Leon
They say it takes a village to raise a child, well in our case it’s going to take a village to have a baby. I was born with Mayer Rokitansky Kuster Hauser syndrome. I found out when I was 15 years old that I have No uterus or cervix, one enlarged kidney, and both working ovaries. In May of 2007 I met my amazing husband to whom I have been happily married to since September of 2013. He’s known of my condition from day one and has been my rock through everything. Shortly after we got married we started going to a reproductive specialist and seeing what our options were. During this time we were both fairly young and didn’t have the stability and careers that we have now so our insurance did not cover any infertility treatments and we did not have the financial means to do so ourselves. We took sometime and made life decisions to better ourselves and strive for the future that we longed for. About 4 years later we decided to apply for adoption through fostering but sadly that had fell through and we were devastated so again we took yet another break from everything. During this time the first clinical trial had begun regarding a uterine transplant in the United States. I applied to multiple trials in Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh but denied for all of them due to being born with one kidney. So a few more years went by and I started talking about the idea of having our own child again.
I began going to a new reproductive specialist were I found out that my AMH levels were extremely low for someone my age. The doctor said that it was still possible to produce my own eggs and have a positive outcome however we just needed to be extremely aggressive and not wait. Again I was crushed and sadly this seemed to be our new normal. I was torn I didn’t know if we should continue with everything Or just call it quits, but deep down felt like I needed to continue we did not come this far to just give up. Despite all the odds against us and weighing every single pro and con my husband and I decided to proceed with the IVF process. This had been the most difficult, stressful, emotional, uncertain, and exciting rollercoaster I have yet to tackle in my life.
With that being said we have completed our first round of IVF in February of 2020. On February 26, 2020 we got the call from the embryologist that we were able to successfully produce four perfectly beautiful healthy embryos! Which are currently safely frozen awaiting our next step.
Our insurance does not cover any gestational carrier coverage even with my known medical condition. All procedure must be paid in full up front before starting. I have applied for grants and we are currently saving money towards our baby goal.
We want to thank each and everyone of you Personally for taking the time to read our story! We were ashamed and scared to ask for help, especially which such a delicate and personal situation. However I was told you don’t always know someone needs help unless they say something. This changed my perspective and helped me to open up out of my comfort zone, swallow my pride and write our story.
Again We thank you so very much and If you are able to donate please do so. If you are not able to donate please share our story.
Lastly, In addition we will be having a blank puzzle made. With every donation made we will be writing your name or family name on the blank puzzle piece. Once the entire puzzle is completed with your donations we are going to frame it and hang it up in the baby’s room. A little token to help remind us everyday of the special persons who have made our miracle baby Leon a reality! Thank you again!
