When you visit Fleur de Flea, Hammerheads, or were eating at Come Back Inn when it was still open, you may have noticed the sketch of a mural that has remained unfinished for many years on the corner of Breckenridge and Swan; several years ago, a muralist was paid by the owner of the house to create a mural and add art to the neighborhood, but after beginning the work, the muralist disappeared!

Since then, the unfinished sketch of that first mural has remained on the wall for many years, and the financial resources have not been available to either finish it or cover it up. So now, we are hoping that through the support of our community, we can rectify this wrong and finally get a mural completed here!

This wall sits in a highly visible part of our community, next to beloved restaurants Hammerheads and Historic Come Back Inn (soon to be a new restaurant), and across the street from Fleur De Flea. This is an awesome intersection that is roughly at the corner of four of Louisville's most iconic neighborhoods; Germantown, Paristown, Smoketown, and Shelby Park.

Every day, people from our neighborhoods and from across the city walk, bike, and drive past this unfinished project. It stands as a reminder of something that was started and never completed, but also of what this community could become if we come together to change it! A completed mural here could become a major attraction for the area and be a real boost for nearby businesses as well. Funds will help pay for:

  • Repairing/preparing the wall until it's suitable for painting
  • Renting equipment such as safety gear, respirators, and scaffolding
  • Purchasing paint, brushes, and other painting supplies
  • Paying artists for their labor
We have an ambitious goal of finishing the project by the end of the year, weather permitting, if we can raise the funds in time! And have already cut down the invasive tree that was growing up against this house and blocking the wall, which was the first step in preparing the site.

If you are able to donate or share this fundraiser, you will be helping our community finish what was left undone and bring new life to a space that so many people see every day! Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help!
