Community Building in the Bronx

G.I.V.E. (Getting Involved, Virginia Ave Efforts) is a grass root organization serving the Bronx. It's mission is to create a new culture of environmentally conscious people through block beautification projects, tree stewardship, artistic activities and volunteer opportunities. No one in our staff gets paid, we are all volunteers (including directors NILKA MARTELL, CHRISTINE ORTEGA and carpenter EILEEN BONILLA) who donate our time and skills to coordinate free events for the community.
This year we were awarded two grants to expand our tree stewardship efforts and construct 16 more tree guards.
We'd like to continue this project and construct and paint 10 more ($1250 - includes wood, paint, screws, drills) to line the newly planted trees on Virginia Ave., have the kids create 10 wooden "curb your dog" signs and tree ids ($200), plant over 200 tulip bulbs ($200) and host a bbq for our volunteers and the community ($400 - includes fee for permits, food and beverages) and lastly drop clothes, trays, brushes and rollers ($350).
We will engage over 50 people in the local community to contribute their time and skill to complete this project!
The total for this project is $2400.00.
