Behind the Badge

Hello, this is Grayson County, KY Sheriff Norman Chaffins. The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Leitchfield Police Dept. have teamed up and formed a non-profit called Behind the Badge. Monies raised goes to families/individuals in need. This fund is used for Shop With A Cop and multiple other charities. We have purchased caps and gowns for graduating seniors, helped homeless veterans, domestic violence victims and kids with cancer. We even helped Eastern KY families who lost everything in the flooding of 2022.

Currently, we are raising money for a 10-year-old boy and his parents to cover out of pocket medical expenses.

For the next several weeks "Behind the Badge" will be collecting money for a 10-year-old boy and his parents. This young man and his parents have many challenging days ahead of them. A few months ago doctors discovered a brain lesion which appears to have caused this young man to have multiple seizures a day. Unfortunately, he is not responding well to medicine to control his them. In the past two years he has only had 24 days where he did not have a seizure. Now, this young man is being asked to go through a pre-op surgical procedure to determine if he would be a candidate for additional treatments (medical implant devices and/or neurosurgery) to possibly help control his seizures since they are not responding to medication. This pre-op process is done in phases which could take a year or more to determine if he is even a candidate. During this time, the brain lesion will be monitored for growth or change. However, the seizures are the immediate issue that needs to be addressed.

Our goal is to collect $12,000.00 which will cover the families maximum out of pocket expenses with their insurance for the year. Currently, both parents are working and Dad is working overtime to help make ends meet.
