Funds for Trans Support

Recently, a public figure made a significant donation of £70,000 to an anti-trans group. This news was tragic but not surprising, however, I decided in response to raise £70,000 (Hopefully more!) for charities who fight transphobia, to help them with their crucial work combatting transphobia and also to show support to the trans community.

Organisations who fight against transphobia are more critical now than ever. We refuse to let high-profile figures and governments use trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people as political scapegoats. I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of transphobia and gender-based oppression. This fight is personal to me, and it is a fight we can only win together.

Trans rights are human rights and every person- regardless of their gender identity deserves to live freely, without discrimination or harm. The trans community deserve our unwavering support and dedication to eradicate trans hate. Ally is a doing word, so let’s do something.

I have chosen four organisations that address a diverse range of issues to support the trans community. The funds will be equally distributed among these four organisations.

Selfhood

Selfhood is the world’s first, and only, gender liberation organisation, fighting to end gender identity discrimination. They run campaigns, upskill local activists, and tackle the root causes of gender-based oppression. As part of their grassroots and feminist approach to their work, they are committed to full transparency on how they spend money donated.

Transactual

TransActual are a UK based trans led and run organisation. Through their advocacy, education and empowerment work they plan to keep working until all trans people are able to live safely, in dignity and with appropriate access to healthcare. The funds donated to them will go towards their Parliamentary engagement work - this is an area of work which is much harder to fund but is vital that they do.

Global Butterflies

Global Butterflies is an award-winning organisation founded in 2015, focused on raising awareness in the business sector about the importance of recruiting and supporting trans and nonbinary people. They provide training, consulting, and support services to over 160 corporate clients across the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, and Hong Kong. Their mission is to enhance trans and nonbinary inclusivity in workplaces, improving attraction, recruitment, promotion, transition, and healthcare for trans and nonbinary employees. Additionally, they contribute to trans and nonbinary causes through a charity fund.

Gendered Intelligence

Gendered Intelligence is a trans-led charity that works to expand understandings of gender and improve the lives of trans people. They provide services and support to trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning individuals, while also offering education, training, and consultancy to organisations and engaging in public policy, media, and research to drive positive change. Their mission is to create a world where diverse gender identities are visible and valued.
