On Saturday, November 8th, our family learned that an orphanage in Ghana, Happy Homes, had raised enough funds to build a small school serving 250 children in the community. 35 orphans attend the school.
We also discovered that it costs just £84 per year to cover the school fees for each child.
After hearing that, I spoke with my wife and kids, and we all agreed to sponsor three children — one in honour of each of our own: Kayode, Morayo, and Lolade.
- But we wanted to do more.
So we set a goal to fund education for the 35 orphaned children attending the school. I posted our goal on my whatsapp and Instagram.
My son also came up with an idea:
“Dad, I should make a video asking people to sponsor a child for every goal I score this weekend?”
He had a match on Sunday, playing for Tottenham Hotspur U11s vs Brighton & Hove Albion, he scored ⚽⚽⚽ goals.
By Sunday evening, through the generosity of friends and family, we exceeded our goal by 2. Total of 37 children's full year education was sponsored by 26 different donors.
So we thought — why stop now?
If we can fund 37 in a weekend, why not all 250 students in the school?
It’s £84 per year per child, and every donation goes directly toward paying school fees for the children at the school.
We’ve set up this GoFundMe page to make it happen — and we would love you to sponsor a child.
