My name is Lauren and I am raising funds on behalf of the innocent people who are being unlawfully detained at the Northlake detention center in Michigan. The vast majority of people in this center have no criminal record despite what you may have heard from government agencies and bad news reporting. Because most of them are being unlawfully detained, they have a legal avenue for release but that takes time and money. Attorneys have to file motions in court, Habeas Corpus petitions, for example. In most cases, motions and bond hearings need to be scheduled and detainees need legal counsel to represent them. If they are released, detainees are almost always ordered to pay a high bond. And yes this is for people who have no criminal records and are productive members of society. Even though this is very unjust, getting them out of the detention center and back to their families is what matters in this moment. Every dollar donated will go directly to the law firm we are partnering with to get these people out of detention and reunited with their loved ones. I live in Michigan so we are focused here right now but my hope is to build a foundation that can help support communities across the country.
