Our weekend event was last weekend and it was a WONDERFUL experience! Such sweet families we served. As you can see, we are still in need of funds to cover the expense of hosting them at Ridge Haven. My name is Karen and I live in Georgia where there are 11,000 children in foster care. In our county alone (Hall County, northeast of Atlanta), there are 256 children in foster care.

Together with my church (Home Church in Buford), my husband’s nonprofit (Adults Protecting Children, Inc. ), and a camp and conference center in North Carolina (Ridge Haven), I am organizing a weekend getaway this May 18-20, 2018 for families in the foster care system throughout North Georgia.


Earlier in March, we opened registration to foster families after getting approval from the Division of Family & Children Services, and it took only FOUR DAYS for the maximum 28 families to register. (And are they ever excited about this weekend! One family said, in the 11 years they’ve been fostering, they’ve never heard of an event like this.)


They number 173 family members: nearly 70 foster kids and 40 non-foster kids!

During this weekend event, the foster parents will receive free trainings with nearly half of the annual CEUs they need to earn for the year. Meanwhile, our team of volunteers will care for their children, either in nurseries for the little ones or recreational activities for the older kids. The families will stay at this camp for 2 nights, be fed all 5 meals, and have ample time to enjoy the various recreational activities together. We aim to give them a FUN, RECREATIONAL, RELAXING, CREATIVE and EDUCATIONAL weekend.

Since we wanted no foster family to say that finances kept them from registering, we made it very affordable for any family. That means we need to cover the additional cost of room and board for the weekend.

And that’s where you can help! Your donation on this GoFundMe page is tax-deductible through Adults Protecting Children, Inc. , a 501(c)3 organization. All funds received (100%) will be used for this weekend event, which will help give these 30 foster families a needed BREAK from their daily lives.

 The 2-night, 3-day weekend will be filled with:

·      Recreational fun for the whole family

·      6 foster parent trainings (to provide 6-8 hours of their required 15 CEU hours per year), one of which is provided by Adults Protecting Children: Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training

·      Plenty of opportunities for fellowship with each other during mealtimes, training sessions, and recreational activities

·      Tasty meals all weekend in this new spacious dining room!

·      And surprises . . .
