18th of May marathon in Riga - For our incredible mum Clare

Hi, my name is Charlie.

Me, my siblings, Sophie, Joe, and Morgan, lost our mum Clare, and my brother and sister-in-law Adam and Claire lost their auntie Linda last year to glioblastoma, which is an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Before mum got diagnosed, we had never heard of it before.

Our whole world turned upside down so quickly. However, Professor Plaha performed complex surgery and gave us an extra year with mum in which we cherished so much. It was incredibly difficult and heartbreaking, but we were grateful to have that extended time to make so many wonderful memories and make mum as happy and as comfortable as possible.

Despite how much mum had to go through, she handled everything with such courage and spirit and was always her happy, optimistic self, full of love and laughter. She was an inspiration to us all!

My auntie linda was always the life and soul of every party and was always up for a laugh. We miss her mischievous sense of humour - but thinking of the capers we got up to will always bring a smile to my face.

She was taken before her time but I’ll take solace in the fact I know she’s laughing at me attempting to run a marathon, but also proud of us too.

Me, Joe and Adam are running a marathon in Riga, Latvia on the 18th of May because we loved them so much, and want to challenge ourselves to raise awareness.

Brainstorm was a charity close to mums heart.

We hope that by raising money for this charity, we can help fund research to eventually find ways to mitigate and hopefully cure cancer like glioblastoma once and for all.
