For Mich: Support for Albert & Matt & ALK Research
Donation protected
Back in May 2020, my wonderful friend Michelle received a cancer diagnosis. Subsequent tests revealed that it was stage IV ALK+ NSCLC lung cancer, which had spread to her brain and possibly her liver. Throughout the past three years, Michelle underwent targeted therapy (TK1), radiation therapy, had brain surgery, alongside many complementary therapies.
Following her brain surgery, Michelle discussed the possibility of seeking alternative treatments overseas, this would require a substantial amount of funding. Her words stayed with me, and I wanted to contribute. As a result, I signed up for the upcoming Sydney marathon this September to raise funds. And, I'm thrilled to share that I convinced Giles Brown, Rich Lane, and Sam Whitaker to join me in running and fundraising!
Devastatingly Michelle left her body still fighting to be with us on 24 June. No one was prepared for her sudden loss and the immense sadness it brings, despite many knowing that Michelle has battled cancer for the last three years.
Michelle was a fiercely loyal, loving and funny friend. She touched the lives of so many and will be missed terribly. Her impeccable style, community spirit, creativity, unique humour, beautiful red lips, immeasurable grace, generous heart and thoughtfulness never faltered.
Over the past couple of months, I have been undecided about running, I've been unwell, and my knees hurt - so many excuses!! But the last few conversations I had with Mich were her asking me how I was coping with the training, she was concerned for my welfare because that is who she was.
So in honour of Michelle, we are running. Any funds we raise now will now be shared between the two most special people in her world, her beloved son Albert and her partner of 23 years, Matt, and ALK + cancer research. Money raised will help support them in the coming months as they adjust to life without Michelle. And towards https://www.alkpositive.org/ providing Education & Research Funding To Change The Future Of ALK-positive Lung Cancer.
If you can and are comfortable doing so, any donation big or small will be deeply appreciated. Your kindness and compassion mean a lot.
With much love and thanks.
