In March of last year my wife Maria was diagnosed with Extensive Small Cell Lung Cancer stage 3 (SCLC ). This diagnoses is devastating to our family. As a loving mother of 4 and grandma 3 she has always been the heart of her family, the glue that held them together. Now more than ever we need to Rally around her and be able to show her all the same kind of love and support she has always given to others without hesitation or expecting anything in return.
We were told she needed to begin treatment immediately if she wanted to make it through to the end of the year. Going through with the treatments she would have a better chance of 3 to 5 years . We started treatments right away not knowing how we were going to survive through this financially. It has been such a struggle for our us. We had to relocate since financially things have gotten very tight.
She has recently had a check up and rescans to see how her body has been reacting to treatment. She now is Refractory Extensive-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer (Terminal). Since last year it has spread to her brain and uterus and keeps spreading. She has 37 tumors develop in her brain and her uterus has been consumed. She recently went through Gamma Knife which is radiation brain surgery to break down the tumors in her brain to help extend her life.
We are now being told it would be wise to prepare for the unfortunate outcome since it has already spread outside the lungs and chances for remission is not in our future. she is slowly dying and we cant stop it all we can do is slow it down . My wife is only 44 years old and is still needed very much by her children and her grandchildren who are love her unconditionally.
This is definitely a tough journey filled with doctor’s appointments, treatments and many unexpected challenges that are difficult to accomplish. We are honestly hoping to raise as much as possible to help cover the costs for Maria’s treatments and everyday care. This has not only been an emotional struggle but a financial one as well. She is not able to work since she has treatments 4 times a week and it really breaks her body down. The process of applying for financial assistance, is a longer process than we were expecting, and she keeps getting denied especially with having limited time, we are Reaching out to anyone who is able and willing to help any way possible so she won’t have to give up the fight. We are all here fighting along side of her and staying as positive as we can.
We are not ones to normally ask for help but we are in a time of need and have exhausted all other options.
The funds we are hoping to raise will help us cover Maria’s medical expenses including treatments , medications, hospital stays, tests, scans. As well as ease the struggle of daily cost like her necessary dietary needs to maintain her strength, and to help us with monthly bills so she can concentrate without the extra worry of losing our home.
Despite all these challenges my wife has remained so positive and extremely hopeful. She is determined to continue to fight with all she has. She fights with every breathe! Let’s help her not lose that positive attitude and stand by her in the fight for her life!!
We thank you in advance and forever GREATFUL for helping us through this difficult challenge.
