Yes, you read that correctly. We've decided to start the process to adopt! Is the idea a little overwhelming? Yes. Exciting too? You bet!
Many of you have known our struggle but many do not. Unexplained infertility has been a sad and lonesome journey and definitely hasn't been our choice of discussion topics over the past seven years. Our path to parenthood is going to look a little different and that's OK!
We've decided to work with an agency called Adoption Connections based in San Francisco. It's an amazing agency that's focused on matching birth mothers with adoptive parents. That's right! An angel woman somewhere out there will select us to parent and we couldn't be more excited to start the process.
Our first steps are to complete a home study, which will consist of loads of paperwork and multiple home visits with the agency. Once all the i's are dotted and t's crossed, we wait to be matched. All is said to take about 18 months. A marathon, not a sprint.
We're asking our friends and family for assistance as we walk this path. It's uncharted territory for us but we know that with your support, emotionally and even financially, that we will become parents! We've dreamed for years about raising a little person to be kind, loving, and as goofy as we are, and while we may not be able to bring a child that's biologically ours into the world, we can still be parents and that's beautiful too :)
Donation to our campaign will be used to pay the fees associated with home visits, agency activity to match us with a birth mother, and legal fees. The total estimated cost is $20,000- $25,000.
