Creating East York's Community Food Hub

Introduction:

As East York Meals on Wheels (EYMOW) continue to grow and meet the needs of the community, we’re opening a Pay-it-Forward Café this summer.

The Café & Food Market offers low or no-cost fresh and seasonal food and essential daily items that are culturally appropriate and affordable for everyone.

This will be a welcoming space for the community to participate in a dignified and equitable shopping experience.

About EYMOW:

Founded in 1969, East York Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit community service agency

that delivers great tasting, balanced nutritious meals through the help of our dedicated

volunteers. Our services offer much-needed social support for East York’s vulnerable

community members.

East York Meals on Wheels is a registered charity funded by client fees, donations,

memberships, bequests, grants, the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, and

the City of Toronto. Our agency is a member of Imagine Canada, the Ontario Community

Support Association, the Good Food Organization, and the Volunteer Center of Toronto.

Our Programs:

Meals on Wheels:

Friendly volunteers deliver hot meals to our client's doors six days a week. Wellness checks are provided.

Halal Meals on Wheels:

Friendly volunteers deliver FREE halal meals to our Muslim clients in East York twice weekly.

Fresh Food Delivery Program:

FREE food bags are delivered to clients twice a week.

Diners Club:

A chance for seniors in the community to gather for a shared meal twice a week.

Virtual Diners Club:

Virtual programming is offered over Zoom for housebound people and is offered once a month.

Telephone Reassurance:

Pairing volunteers and clients together to converse to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Tablet Lending Program:

FREE tablets are lent to clients to connect them to online services and programs.

Tower Garden:

Urban agriculture volunteer program. Fresh produce grown at our agency supplements the Fresh Food Delivery Program.

How Your Funds Will be Used:

Your support will help us stock our shelves with fresh food and essential daily items and outfit our commercial kitchen to provide healthy snacks for the community. We have dollar-to-dollar match for up to $25K.
