Asalaamu Alaikum and greetings!
East Cobb Islamic Center in Marietta, GA is a place of worship for many Muslims on a daily basis -- we have over 250 regular members who come from all over Marietta, Kennesaw, Roswell, and Smyrna to congregate for worship and enjoy community get togethers. The building that stands today has been in use for the past thirteen years. Since its inception, the Cobb County Muslim Community has grown immensely. As a result we found an increasing need to expand our masjid and community center facilities to fulfill the needs of a growing community.
Initially, ECIC did not have adequate parking --about 30 spaces total. For events like Salatul Jumuah (Friday Prayer) or Ramadan iftars, people would have to park on the lawn of the premise. Looking back on the parking expansion, we were able to rely on the community to donate money generously and resolved the situation by adding over 180 new parking spaces, which are often utilized to almost full capacity. The current building space is limited and the community is in need of a facilities expansion. The Phase I project for ECIC has begun, however, we need the community’s help in order to make this happen.
The structure for the Phase I development will be a spacious, multi-purpose hall. This hall will serve as a facility for weekly Sunday School classes and for events such as lectures, fundraisers, Eid Celebrations, and Nikkah ceremonies. In addition, it will serve as a full-court indoor basketball gym, volleyball court, and indoor soccer. It will also serve a lounge area where people may congregate or study. As we have seen within the growth of our community these are pressing needs for our youth involvement. These facilities will also enable the community to expand.
Within the Metro-Atlanta area, there are almost 90 masaajid, however, not a single one has a facility that offers all these amenities mentioned above. People often find themselves travelling long distances to attend conferences or lectures and youth often find themselves reaching out to other facilities (churches, rec centers, etc) to shell out money and reserve gyms for their own recreational activities. We hope to help solve this demand in the Atlanta Muslim community by creating a facility that our fellow Muslims will be able to utilize for their needs.
The benefits of a facility such as this, owned by a masjid, can be outstanding. People from all over the surrounding areas can convene together within the confines of the masjid for seminars, interfaith get-togethers, cookouts, test prep classes, a recreational basketball game/tournament, or an Eid Salah that can accommodate the entire community. This type of building can be the driving force for a community as big as Atlanta's, bringing our community together to pray, play, grow, and celebrate.
Our plans for this facility include:
-Multipurpose events facility for lectures, conferences, Eid salat,Jumma salat, iftar dinners
-Recreational basketball/volleyball/Indoor soccer leagues for boys, girls and adults
-Academic classes (SAT prep courses)
-Lounge area/game room
-Coworking spaces with Wi-Fi
We sincerely hope that you can support ECIC in this endeavor. May Allah swt reward you for your
