Going to Jamaica to Build a School

Dear Friends, Family and Compassionate Strangers,

I recently applied to an Alternative Spring Break called Partnership Jamaica. Out of about 85 applicants, I was one of the 17 participants selected to join this amazing experience. "Partnership Jamaica offers a total immersion of self into another culture. It’s an intensive service experience for students who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others, build a better community, and strengthen international relations" (http://getinvolved.boisestate.edu/volunteer/alternative-breaks/)

I will be building and reconstructing schools to provide a safe environment that enables a positive learning environment to students in need.

I am currently a Senior in the Baccalaureate Social Work program at Boise State University and am interning at Marian Pritchett, the school for teen parenting and pregnant mothers. I will be graduating in May 2015. I am beyond grateful to have been chosen to participate in this program as I have a passion and understanding of the importance of education. Education plays a significant role in the lives of children and it can greatly impact their future. I had the opportunity to attend a conference held by Idaho Women's Charitable Foundation on the importance of education. The guest speaker was Dr. Tererai Trent, a motivational speaker, humanitarian, mentor and educator, and Oprah Winfrey's "favorite guest presenter".  Her moving speech reinforced the idea that education can make a major difference in the lives of children and to me, children are everything.

With each donation I receive, I am able to help the lives of so many children.  With the donations of loving friends, family and supporters of education, I will be able to fly to Jamaica during Spring Break and help build and reconstruct schools.  If I am able to raise more than the $1500 for the cost of the trip, I would like to use it to pay for my final semester of school.

I want to thank each and every one of you now. Your support is really helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
