I’m raising money to support Maundy Relief, 29-31 Abbey Street, Accrington BB5 1EB and every donation will help make a real difference to people in our local community. Thank you in advance for any support you can give to a cause that means so much to me and the charity.
My name is Dave Harrison and I currently volunteer with Maundy Relief in Accrington, supporting the charity in a variety of different roles.
Maundy Relief is an award-winning charity based in Accrington, Lancashire, providing support to people experiencing poverty, homelessness, poor mental health, social isolation and financial hardship. Since being established in 1998, the charity has offered food support, housing and welfare advice, counselling, health advocacy and community drop-ins, all delivered with dignity, compassion and a non-judgemental approach.
To raise money for the charity, I will be taking on a slightly different challenge — cycling for 12 hours on a static bike outdoors right outside the charity building.
There will be tea, coffee, biscuits and, of course, cake available throughout the day.
Please feel free to come down, say hello, cheer me on, or simply stay for a chat. There will be seating available and everyone is welcome.
At Maundy Relief, we believe nobody should feel alone. If you are struggling with your mental health, feeling isolated, or simply want someone to talk to, please come down and have a conversation. I’ll be there all day cycling, so the company will definitely help pass the time.
I have always been open about my own journey with mental health. Most recently, five years ago, I experienced a mental breakdown following years of accumulated trauma, which led to severe depression, suicidal thoughts and eventually a diagnosis of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).
My mental health recovery journey has had many challenges, with peaks and troughs, setbacks, good moments and difficult moments along the way. Recovery is not always a straight line, and at times it has simply been about taking life one day at a time. Through counselling, fitness, outdoor activities, meditation, reading, volunteering and support from others, I have continued moving forward.
This challenge is not only about raising money for the charity, but also about raising awareness of mental health, recovery and the importance of community support.
The event will take place on Friday 10th July 2026 between 4am and 4pm with the ultimate goal of cycling as far as I can in this time.
If you would like to help me, come down and help me make a difference, and support the challenge.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards supporting the work of Maundy Relief. Once the event is completed, the charity will decide how the funds are used and an update will be provided.
Thank you for your support.
