Update from February 2026:
Our beloved Laura Alicia Palomares is once again facing advanced Stage IV ovarian cancer. Her remission was short-lived. After courageously completing a complex surgery then chemotherapy, she was in remission for a few months, but unfortunately the cancer has returned and it’s aggressive. LaurAlicia has now reached the limits of what conventional treatment can offer her, with more chemo or a drug with harsh side effects as the only options. We are heartbroken and devastated, but we are not giving up hope for a clinical trial and/or for a non-conventional cancer treatment program. We have found a couple of programs that can give her immune system a boost and a fighting chance, but the cost to participate is very steep.
Ovarian cancer is often called the "silent killer” because symptoms are vague and many people are diagnosed late. Recurrence is tragically common, and when it happens, options become more limited, more complex, and more urgent. LaurAlicia is fighting for time, access, and every possible chance to stabilize her health, extend life, and preserve quality of life. She is navigating this chapter with courage and resilience, but she cannot do it alone. Laura is relying on Medi-Cal, which severely limits access to supportive therapies that can make a meaningful difference to her immune function during recurrence. This is where her community becomes critical.
How Your Support Will Help
A comprehensive integrative cancer treatment program is the long-term goal, which is currently financially out of reach. Therefore, she urgently needs supportive health therapies to help her stay as strong as possible. Our immediate priority is funding accessible care that reduces suffering, supports her immune system, and helps her tolerate ongoing treatments.
Funds raised will go toward essential supportive care not covered by Medi-Cal, including:
- Advanced imaging, laboratory testing, and comprehensive health assessments
- Integrative immune-support therapies
- Targeted light, oxygen, and circulation therapies
- Medically supervised fasting (autophagy)
- IV Vitamin C and other cancer-fighting infusions
- Lymphatic support and detoxification therapies
- Physical rehabilitation and strength recovery care
- Dental work related to chemotherapy side-effects (biological dentistry)
- Specialized supplements and vitamins
- Follow-up monitoring and remote coaching
- Health & wellness conference participation
- Travel and logistical costs associated with accessing treatment
- …to name a few.
For someone living with Stage IV ovarian cancer, supportive care is not optional; it helps preserve strength, reduce pain, and create the stability needed to stay alive for a curative treatment or a miracle to happen. We are also pursuing second opinions and exploring clinical trials that may offer access to emerging treatments beyond standard care. These options require additional testing, coordination, and travel costs that Medi-Cal does not cover. Your support expands LaurAlicia’s access to every possible avenue of life-saving care.
Why This Matters - and Why It's Urgent
Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecologic cancers because it is often diagnosed late and recurrence is common. People facing recurrent ovarian cancer endure not only aggressive treatment, but also overwhelming financial and emotional strain.
LaurAlicia has shown extraordinary courage. But courage alone cannot pay for care. Love alone cannot close the gaps in our healthcare system. Your support turns fear into tangible care. It gives her strength, options, and community during thee hardest chapter of her life.
If you are able to give, your generosity is a lifeline of dignity and solidarity for a lifelong community activist/advocate and organizer who has always shown up for others.
If you cannot give financially, sharing this fundraiser would be a huge help. Please help us get the word out. Awareness saves lives, and community saves people. ¡Solo el pueblo salva el pueblo!
Thank you for standing with us as we support LaurAlicia during this unimaginably stressful and urgent chapter.
With deep gratitude,
Laura Alicia’s Sisters, Friends and Familia
