Community Oppose Future College Neighborhood

Donation protected

We need your help now! La Jolla Shores Association (LJSA) and Friends seek your support to oppose UCSD planned Future College Living and Learning Neighborhood (FCLLN). This project is 5 huge buildings of 9,10,11, 16 and 21 stories tall to be built in the 850-space parking lot by La Jolla Playhouse Theater District.  By comparison, the Hyatt is the closest large building at a mere 16 stories tall! Their stated timeline is approvals this July and construction in September 2020!!

All contributions pay for legal representation to oppose this monster FCLLN project. Donations can be made anonymously. Any amount is welcome.

Here are a few reasons to oppose this project:

1.     Traffic & Safety: The location at the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and North Torrey Pines Road is already overloaded with traffic. This is the main artery for anyone who lives, works or visits La Jolla. The proposed “sync lights” cannot keep traffic flowing if it is bumper-to-bumper! In an emergency, will First Responders be able to quickly access our community to save lives and property?

2.     Environment: This project, along with the 4-5 future huge projects planned for this area, will adversely impact our community’s environment in myriad ways (i.e., air and noise pollution, congestion, greenhouse gases, etc.). The 21-story tower and 5 massive buildings will forever dramatically alter and dominate the southwest edge of Campus. The bulk and scale of these monster buildings overwhelm the nearby residential areas.

3.     Cooperation: We have repeatedly requested to work cooperatively together to create a project that works for both the Community and UCSD, with minimal results. Many queries have been ignored or unanswered. The sheer size of the FCLLN project appears much to large to just house 2,000 students. What are the plans for the use of the rest of these massive buildings?

Donate now and halt this project from breaking ground this September. Help us stop this unbridled development under the guise of student housing.
