I have probably told you, for years one of my dreams has been to establish a relationship with a disadvantaged, minority community and create a comprehensive wellness space to conduct health education, exercise, research and youth outreach. Well, I grew tired of thinking about and ready or not, have taken the leap here in Southeast, DC, the community where I work and where 70% of residents make less than $30,000/year. Please take 4 minutes to watch the video on this page about the new Community Wellness Collective.
The center opened in October and I have been using my own money to support it until we have our non-profit status and are able to compete for grants funds and raise money. This process has taken a lot longer than I anticipated so now...I need help. I would be really grateful if you'd contribute even $5 to this cause because every bit adds up.
100% of your money will be used to:
1. Support low-income residents to attend classes
2. Pay instructors
3. Deliver live health education
4. Pay the rent and insurance
5. Market our program to people living in Southeast Washington, DC.
Right now our instructors volunteer but I know this isn't sustainable. I really believe in this concept and know it can be successful in improving health outcomes and health literacy. But it needs a healthy start. Thanks so much for your support and please share this with others you know who may be interested in supporting this cause.
