Hello, my name is Jazzmin (Also, known as, 'Double Z')!
I am a full-time caregiver, Power of Attorney, and advocate for my father, who became quadriplegic after suffering multiple strokes caused by COVID-19 in December 2020.
At the time, he was a healthy 49-year-old man with no pre-existing health conditions, no medications, and no prior hospitalizations. Within days of his COVID diagnosis, he was placed in a medically induced coma, ventilated, and written off as unlikely to ever regain consciousness.
But he did.
But today, he’s alert.
He eats a regular diet.
He breathes on his own.
And most importantly, he still has hope.
❗ Why This Fundraiser Matters
Due to a lack of private health insurance and his status as a convicted felon with no recent work history, my father has spent the last 3+ years in public, low-rated facilities. As a result, he has suffered:
- 24 stage-four pressure wounds
- Multiple cases of sepsis
- Muscle contractures due to prolonged neglect
- Ongoing challenges with mobility and rehabilitation access
He has not been awarded Social Security or Disability benefits, and Medicaid-funded options have failed to provide consistent or dignified care.
Our Goal: Private, Self-Funded Healthcare
After 5 years of research, advocacy, and navigating the system alone, I am now focused on transitioning my father into a private-pay facility that will provide:
- Consistent skilled nursing
- Specialized physical therapy for limb recovery
- Infection control
- Quality of life programs that support mental, emotional, and spiritual health
The average monthly cost: $12,000 - $13,000, which includes:
- ~$4,000/month: Room & Board
- ~$7,000–$8,000/month: 24/7 Skilled Nursing, Physical Therapy, Mobility Support, and Infection Management
I am seeking help from my community to begin this transition into self-funded, dignified care for the man who deserves a fighting chance at comfort and stability.
Our Goal: $500,000
This isn’t just about survival. It’s about a second chance at life, with dignity.
We are raising $500,000 to support:
✅ 2+ years of private, long-term care (~$12,000/month average)
✅ Orthopedic + reconstructive surgeries
✅ Physical and occupational therapy
✅ Wound care + infection prevention
✅ Skilled medical transport and mobility devices
✅ Adaptive housing modifications for future home care
✅ Legal, medical, and administrative support
✅ Emergency reserves for hospitalizations and critical care
Why It Matters
After years of watching my father suffer in low-rated facilities, due to systems that fail low-income, uninsured, and formerly incarcerated patients, I'm choosing to do what those systems didn’t:
Invest in his life. His comfort. His chance to heal.
