Our 12-year-old son, Charles, was recently diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Since his diagnosis on June 3rd, he has already endured 3 chemotherapy treatments. Just days after being sent home, he was rushed back to the hospital and diagnosed with typhlitis, a dangerous infection due to his weakened immune system. He went into septic shock and is now in the hospital again for at least 10–14 days minimum.
To make things even harder, Charles will be spending his 13th birthday (June 21st) in a hospital room.
Despite everything, Charles is pushing through. He’s exhausted, physically and emotionally, but he continues to trust the doctors and nurses helping him, even if he doesn’t fully understand why he has to go through all this.
My wife Patricia and I take turns staying by his side at the children’s hospital, about 30 minutes from home. While we’re incredibly grateful that I’m being given the time off work to be there for him, the extra gas and daily meals away from home have added up quickly. It’s not a financial crisis but it is wearing, and anything that helps lighten that load means we can focus more energy on Charles.
We’re not asking for anything extravagant. Just support to help us stay close to our son while he fights through this.
Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers. We’ll share updates along the way and appreciate anything you can do to help whether it’s donating, sharing, or just sending encouragement.
With gratitude,
Ryan, Patricia, and Charles
