WE ARE RAISING MONEY TO PURCHASE NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS FOR DISTRIBUTION TO LOCAL FAMILIES IN NEED
Pawtucket has been one of the hardest hit Coronavirus hotspots in Rhode Island. As the pandemic persists, the elderly and at-risk population of our community are still finding it hard to not only shop for groceries but to also eat nutritious meals.
We are asking for your help to raise the funds necessary to purchase fresh and non-perishable food items to deliver to our neighbors in need. The money raised from our fundraiser will be added to food donations from local farmers, businesses, and individuals in our community. If you wish to donate non-perishable food items, a collection box has been set up in the lobby of the Pawtucket City Hall (137 Roosevelt Avenue).
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to support families who were hit financially by COVID-19 and offer each household a box of essential and healthy food items. We hope to act as a bridge between families who are in immediate need of food and those who are able to give a little to help them.
There are fantastic local food banks and other social services in place that should absolutely be supported at this time. (In RI please visit https://rifoodbank.org/find-food/ ) However, we believe this is an ALL HANDS ON DECK moment. For starters, our goal is 100 families - $3,000. That is $30/box, and it allows us to purchase further food items and necessities in addition to the food items we have already received from our community. If we surpass this goal we will use all extra funds to create and distribute even more boxes.
I know we can reach this goal together. Maybe even surpass it!

WHO WE ARE:
We are just students who want to help our neighbors. My name is Kinnan Dowie, and I am working alongside Vincent Emery and David Montenegro to step up to help people in our neighborhood. In the summer of 2019 we created the Rhode Island Student Advocates (RISA). We are a student founded and student-led organization that aims to help reform and make better public education in the State of Rhode Island. RISA primarily operates out of Pawtucket, RI and we work with elected officials, policy markers, school officials, and students to collaboratively make public education better. However our focus isn’t only on education, it is about helping our community in a positive way.
