Bulltánica’s next chapter: care, gardens and community
Updated October 23, 2026
To everyone who has supported Bulltánica—thank you. Many of you heard from us personally, and your generosity helped us purchase the battery-powered tools needed to begin clearing dense bamboo at Whitehall Terrace. Your support made practical work possible.
How we got here
A lawsuit concerning an earlier agreement to sell part of the estate’s property was filed in summer 2025. That dispute added uncertainty as we worked toward a long-term future for Bulltánica. For us, it reinforced the importance of secure ownership and a clear path for the care and community uses we envision. The property-contract lawsuit and the rezoning application are separate matters.
We began the City’s rezoning process later in 2025. On April 14, 2026, the Planning Commission recommended approval by a 10–2 vote. That was a recommendation, not final City Council approval.
After that vote, the then-owner announced plans to sell Whitehall. On May 27, Planning notified us that he had withdrawn owner consent and requested that the rezoning stop, so staff would withdraw the application. We also received a notice terminating our tenancy in late May. This was a difficult period for the practice, and we had to cancel appointments.
On August 26, Monica and I purchased Whitehall Terrace in Duke Park. In September, Planning provided a path to resume the rezoning process following verification of ownership. We held another neighborhood meeting on October 21. An appeal now challenges the decision allowing the application to resume, and the timeline remains uncertain.
Whitehall’s repairs still need support
The repairs we originally raised funds for are still needed. We have a construction loan pending rezoning; that financing is not yet a completed solution. Purchasing Whitehall was a major step, but it did not make the repair needs disappear.
A stable place for the practice while this continues
While that process continues, we are negotiating for another space to give Bulltánica’s practice greater stability. Our plans include welcoming massage therapists into a shared care space, offering booth rentals for hair and esthetics professionals, and creating space for yoga and small classes. The space needs renovation, and the lease, layout and opening date are still being worked out. We are keeping the location private while negotiations continue.
Monica’s organization, Cultivating Resistance, will sponsor this next phase of fundraising. This is a move for the practice, not our household. We are preparing a budget for the move, necessary renovations and opening costs. We will distinguish those needs from Whitehall’s repairs and explain what donations and any loan proceeds would cover before announcing a revised funding request.
Our vision also connects this work with gardens, greenhouse growing and time together outdoors, including the terrace. We will share details about those activities and access as the plans are confirmed.
Continuity of care is a priority. Thank you for helping us keep building a welcoming place for care, creativity and community. Our website has more information about the Whitehall proposal: https://www.bulltanica.com/rezoning-explained
With gratitude,
Moe and Monica
About the earlier campaign
This fundraiser began with our plans to purchase and restore Whitehall Terrace. We have now purchased the property. Earlier updates describe that stage of the project and earlier repair estimates; they are not the current relocation budget.
The $25,000 shown on this page is the existing campaign goal. We have not yet set a revised goal for the practice move. We will share the new budget and proposed uses of funds as those details are confirmed. Our latest update includes photographs of the grounds work your encouragement has helped us continue.
