Help Build Water Well for Primary School in Rural Africa

Donation protected

This is the water the children are collecting drinking from the river, often contaminated with waterborne diseases

From first visiting Kibangile village in Tanzania Africa in 2021, I began volunteering and raising funds to supply the local kindergarten with equipment, supplying community villages without electricity, solar lighting. We are living in the 21st century and it shocked me to realise people were still living in darkness!

we now have many projects in place, all money raised will firstly go to build a water well for Kibangile primary school in Rural Tanzania that does not have any access to clean water.
The water well will provide clean, safe water to an entire primary school in Tanzania. A single well can improve health, and give children the chance to better focus on education instead of walking for water.

Often visiting the primary school in Kibangile and seeing the child suffer from lack of water made we realise that WATER IS LIFE!! It is needed for many essential needs at the school, drinking water, water sanitation and hygiene, toilets, washing hands and preparing lunch for the students (cooking)
Too many children at Kibangile village suffer needlessly - walking for water at the river that is very dangerous to collect as the condition of the river is very fast flowing and risky for the younger primary school children, it’s requires a lot of effort and leaves the children tired and unable to focus on other tasks at school and home life.

students carrying water back from the river, the older students carry 10 litres whilst the younger ones carry 5 litres.

The children at Kibangile primary school spend a lot of time trying to fetch water during breaks, and some resume their studies without getting enough water to drink. The water in the school is not enough to conduct regular hygiene and sanitation; thus, classrooms are dusty, and latrines emit a very unpleasant odor, due to inadequate water. Children have to collect water and put into buckets and transfers to larger buckets to flush and clean toilets but this requires a lot of effort and time.

This used to be the water supply system but is no longer functioning. There is currently no drinking water facilities

Learners often contract water-related infections like typhoid, amoeba, and diarrhoea after drinking water drawn from the river, that contains a lot of disease also a high risk as the river is fast flowing and contains crocodiles , (recently a women lost her life due to an crocodile attack) young children having to walk into the river to collect the water daily is a danger to their lives. Due to exposure to water-related infections, students are often absent from school as they seek treatment.

Child at Kibangile school collecting water, the river is extremely fast flowing which causes the children to collect water closer to the edge but there is still a high risk of swept away by unexpected currents

Handwashing and drinking stations
There is currently no handwashing or drinking facilities at the school but we plan to install two gravity-fed handwashing stations, enabling everyone at the school to wash their hands. Handwashing is crucial for preventing water-related illnesses within the school and community.

Where the food is prepared. Wood fire, the child also collect the wood for cooking
