Building the Chookie Hilton - Jingili School
Donation protected
I’m raising funds to donate to Jingili Primary School. In February 2023, ten of our beloved chickens were killed in the middle of the night, others were found injured, and handful survived. We still don’t know who could do such a thing. The locked chicken home was broken into, and sadly it wasn’t the first time.
A permanent outdoor agricultural learning space, where the chickens will live, is estimated to cost around $35,000. This includes materials, labour, engineering plans, certification and some chicken luxury. The school can’t risk bringing the chickens back their Jingili Primary School home without a proper shelter. This time, it will be intruder-proof, and built to last generations to come. I’m calling on the community to bring the chickens home!
The chickens are living with Ms Jodie, and the kids still pick worms in their lunch breaks for her to take home. Omlette the chicken is a real survivor. He has undergone surgery on his leg thanks to Darwin Vet Hospital.
We’d appreciate any help, including cash donations, building materials, or access to a qualified and skilled labour. All donors get to nominate a new chicken name, and the students will vote on the winning names! Use the "Words of support" function when you donate.
We’re also looking for a Platinum Sponsor to donate $10,000! A plaque in recognition of your generosity will be mounted on the structure.
The children and teachers at Jingili Primary School would love for their hand-raised feathery friends to return to the school, and are very grateful for any help you can give.
The Kitchen Garden Program, of which the chickens are an integral part, has been going for 12 years. It is the heart and soul of the school! It's run by the world's most passionate educators, Ms Peters and Ms Jodie. Students of all abilities and from all walks of life grow plants, raise and care for the chickens, use school-grown produce to cook and explore the seasons, and create masterpieces with recycled goods. On rainy days the students meditate and sketch. It’s even self sufficient, as materials are mostly paid for through produce sales! The kids bring food scraps in from home to feed the chickens on weekends - learning about composting and healthy choices!
Cash donations can be made via this page. Remember to include your chicken name!
For all other donations, get in touch with us via GoFundMe or the “Jingili Primary Chookie Hilton Fundraiser” facebook page.
All funds raised in excess of the final cost will be donated to the Kitchen Garden Program to use at their discretion.
