The Hispanic and Latinx community in Durham, NC are facing an incredibly difficult time. ICE raids, financial hardship, and the loss of vital programs have left many struggling to afford groceries and basic essentials. In addition... the majority of families in East Durham are facing financial hardships. With gas prices, groceries becoming expensive, not being able to qualify for food stamps, many families are struggling to have food on the table.
After attending local events and listening to the concerns of community members, especially those dealing with language barriers and financial stress, I realized just how many people are affected. The stories I’ve heard have motivated me to step up and use the opportunities I have to help and share with others. ✍️
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards the East Durham Community Fair Event happening on Friday, July 31st.
We’ll use your donations to provide warm meals and remaining boxed meals to deliver them to families and individuals. Plus it will help provide families and kids with back to school essentials.
$15 covers a meal and a drink. $8 covers one backpack of school supplies
As someone who grew up with immigrant parents, I’ve seen how financial hardship and the current situation can spread fear and affect mental health. I believe that food, shelter, and resources are basic rights for everyone. I don’t want to see the community I grew up with in shambles, but instead, I want to see a light of hope and strength because we support each other in hard times. Please join me in helping our neighbors grow. Your support can make a real difference.
Best,
