Brian Higgins is a majestic unicorn of a human being. To know him is to love him, seriously. I've never met such a likeable person in my life.
On Wednesday October 5 Brian suffered from a VAD Vertebral Artery Dissection with a stroke to his parietal area.
On Thursday October 6 Brian suffered another stroke, this time an infarction in his cerebellum.
On Friday October 7 Brian underwent emergency brain surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain and while they were at it they had to remove 30% of his cerebellum due to the tissue being dead from the stroke.
The surgeons are telling us that they suspect cognitively he'll be fine but physically, he has a very long road ahead of him. He has to relearn pretty much all of his every day living activities. He can't even swallow at this point. So he has to learn to swallow, talk, walk, dress himself, groom, feed himself- all of it. It's going to take some time, but Brian can do it!
Anyone that knows us knows that Brian and I would both give the shirts off of ours backs to anyone in need. We're both helpers, fixers.
Well now we really need the help. As much as I hate to ask (this is extremely hard for me) I know we're out of our depth here. We've already started accruing medical bills but beyond that, we've got no income for the time being as Brian is in ICU and I've cancelled all of my clients to provide care to our Huggy Bear.
I don't want Brian worrying about us while he's trying to recover. He needs to focus on getting better. I need to focus my time and energy on getting him better and our kids.
We are so lucky to be a part of the Costco family and everyone at the #133 has been amazing.
Thank you for helping Higgins, Huggles, Huggy Bear, or whatever lovely thing you call him. We appreciate you more than you'll know.
