Artisan Barber New York – Keeping the brand alive and well!

After three years, Artisan Barber is thriving. Let’s make sure that remains true.

We're inviting friends and family, our community of clients, along with anyone who wants to support our cause to donate a haircut this month, helping us fund the recovery of both Manhattan barbershops.

I'm Charlie McCoy, owner and founder of Artisan Barber.

I started to learn barbering when I was 15 years old. My uncle was my teacher. Quickly, I realized that I had stumbled onto a passion, and in 2005, I relocated to NYC to pursue a career in “the majors.” That was how I thought of it: NYC was everything to me, and I was going to make it here.

In 2012, I became a Master Barber and Brand Ambassador with Kiehl’s 1851. Slowly but surely, I built up my reputation as a men's grooming expert, and in 2017, I decided to start my own brand, launching Artisan Barber as a haircare company and lifestyle brand based in Manhattan. I have invested heavily in developing content and promoting the Artisan Barber brand over the last three years, accruing a devoted following for my shop. It’s been a successful run – so much so that I opened a second location in 2019, on the Lower East Side. There, I have pioneered an Art-Gallery concept store, featuring all of the core Artisan Barber products and hosting events that feature local chefs, artists, and musicians, fostering a sense of community around the brand.

What a ride, right?

Then, in March, things changed, as they did for all of us. Governor Cuomo made the decision to suspend barbershops. Instead of letting that time pass by idly, I got to work developing more content. Unfortunately, this content has not paid the bills, and after three zero-revenue months, our Barber Shops are in the hole for a entire Quarter of rent, utilities, taxes, etc. On top of that, there will be limits to reopening – new regulations that will restrain growth, operations, and revenue. The ongoing protests have also presented their own challenges to a smooth reopen.

This is where I could use some help.

Local businesses are the heart and soul of our communities.  Social distancing and government-mandated shutdowns are disproportionately affecting businesses that need foot traffic to survive. I am looking to raise a $100,000  Recovery Fund to cover the debt ,expenses, and arrears  for my two Manhattan barbershops and the inevitable difficulties that I will encounter re opening in the near future.

Make a contribution to help these two world-class barbershops get up and running again!

Forging through 2020
There is a vibrant community around Artisan Barber. It is different from other barbershops because I have made a point of embracing service and celebrating individuality. When you come in and you sit down in one of my chairs, you should know what you can expect: real attention, real expertise, real artistry. That is going to continue well beyond 2020.

This has not been an easy year for anyone.. we never saw any of this coming. No one did, of course. As an entrepreneur I have no choice but to pick up the pieces and carry on. I appreciate everyone who has supported my shops in the past and who have sent me messages to check in on me while the shops have stayed closed during the covid-19 pandemic, and I know we can make it through this. We are not quite out of the woods yet, but we are going to keep working.  I have poured my heart and soul into the Artisan Barber brand, and I am certainly not going to stop now.
