Back To School

   
      Back to school Giveaway is an event designed to express the importance of education to the youth. I started this event in 2018 at East Chester Gardens, which is a New York Housing project in the Northern part of the Bronx. I did this event because a lot of my friends and I hung out there when we were younger. Unfortunately, a lot of my friends are now in jail due to a federal sweep. A raid called the #Bronx120. I always wondered what would’ve happened if we had a popular figure to give us a gesture towards going to school. Maybe some of my friends would have college degrees now instead of prison time. I took this truth as a tragedy so I created this event.

    With the collaboration of Bookbag Will, NYCHA and I, we designed this event specifically to entertain our crowd. We will do this while encouraging and supplying them with the fundamental tools to succeed in school. These tools are schools supplies such as bookbags, pens, pencils, notebooks and such. In 2018, I was able to bring Dj Drewski from Hot 97 for a small fee to give a speech. It was a huge success. Now it is approaching the time for this event this year we are ready to do it bigger and better.



    Last year in 2019, the event was held in Haffen Park which is in a suburban area of the Bronx. We gave out over 800 bookbags along with school supplies. We provided entertainment for our guests. This year we are returning to Eastchester Gardens. Importantly, I want to give our community a celebrity feel because it uplifts the youth. The presence of someone that is famous sharing the importance of school with the youth works wonders. With a list of things needed to get this done, I will rely on donations and team work from every angle to make this happen.

    This year has been a historic year for many of the wrong reasons. We are currently in a pandemic and it’s vital that we make approaches to keep the youth on the right track. As of today, we have had a dramatic rise in gun violence. We also have kids who have not been in a regular school environment since March/April. In this time, it is important for us as a community to emphasize how important school and education is. We have to realize thAt our kids have to be educated in order for our world to run smoothly, they are the keys our future! This event is to light that fire under them once again and get them ready for the school year to start.

      Ultimately, we are aiming to raise up to 3,000$. Not only are we providing entertainment but we are attempting to give eastchester gardens a carnival feel. Bouncy houses, entertainment, drummers and a action packed basketball tournament.
