Update:
I know we've been very quiet about the updates lately. We have been processing and communicating within the family with the latest information.
Mom was sent to see another doctor to begin radiation, the plan was for a 3 to 6 week cycle of that, while continuing chemotherapy.
She received a follow up PET SCAN to see progress of the chemotherapy and immunotherapy that she's been receiving until now.
Unfortunately, this did not show us anything good.
Both the mass on her lung and her heart have increased in size, as well as significant increase in activity. Radiation could potentially slow the growth of the mass on her lung, but they will not mess with her heart as it is way too risky to do so.
At this time, she will be doing a stronger chemotherapy, but will not be doing radiation.
The hope being, to keep her here as long as possible, but her oncologist is very concerned with the progression of the cancer.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
As many of you know, around Thanksgiving 2023, my mom started to get sick again. She has been sick on and off again for a little more than a year. Little to no voice, awful coughing, sleepless nights, difficulty breathing. December 28th she went to the Emergency room, hoping her results would come back as COVID. They informed her that she in fact has a mass on her right lung, the Emergency room immediately called her primary care doctor and the referrals started being made.
Her right lung holds a mass of 8.3x6.5cm. Cancer. It has spread to her lymph node above her heart, on her atrium and she will be going for an MRI to confirm the doctors suspicion that it has also traveled to her brain. She is eligible for disability, but that pays very little, and she has not received any payments from them yet. Between several trips to Arnot a week, Falck cancer center, as well as ongoing bills, there is no easy way to make ends meet as we await more answers. What we know now, the cancer is very active, very advanced, and if she opts to not move forward, prognosis is a couple if weeks to maybe 6 months.
We had her biopsy yesterday, and meeting with oncology in about a week and a half to go over course of action.
At this time, we are asking for donations to help with her everyday living costs, help in paying bills and to help with transportation.
A year ago January 14th, she also lost her soul mate to cancer, as the anniversary of his passing approached, we really expected this year to be a much better one.
If you're unable to donate, please share.
Thank you all for your ongoing love and support.
We now have an echocardiagram scheduled, will be scheduling the MRI soon as well.
I would like everyone to know, she is spending her time with loved ones. Friends, her daughters, grand-babies and other family. She's home, and we plan to keep it that way as long as possible.
No sweepstakes, r@ffles, giveaways, or promotions are offered in exchange for any donations made to GoFundMe.
I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone for their continued kind words, prayers, love and support.
This last week was a crazy one. Monday night, into Tuesday the 5th, mom was really struggling to breathe. Between trying to catch her breath and breathe through the pain, she ended up calling an ambulance. She was taken to Ira Davenport and transfered a few hours later to Arnot Ogden.
We ended being able to get her MRIs done (2), another biopsy, and basic labs/testing, as well as breathing treatments that really seemed to help. She had also tested positive for RSV during her stay. She was really not having a good go of it.
We are looking at stage 3 squamous cell lung cancer, spread to her atrium and lymph node above her heart.
The masses on her brain and upper spine are BENIGN! So that is absolutely amazing news.
Thursday she received her first round of immunotherapy and chemo. Regular appointments for labs, treatments, testing, scans, etc to come.
Please keep praying and keep her in your thoughts.
She is resting home again, Quinlan's came and installed a bed for her which has helped her breathing as sleeping as well, huge thanks to them for that and to all of you who continue to help in one way or another.
Going to be a long road, but we've got this, SHE'S got this!
